JEWELLERY

Ecommerce for jewellers, priced on today's gold rate

A jewellery shop cannot put a price on a product page and leave it there. Edesy prices every piece from the rate you publish each morning, against its own weight, making charge and stones — and re-quotes a cart that has gone stale before anyone pays.

THE PROBLEM

What makes this trade awkward online

Rates move during the day

A ring listed at yesterday's rate is either a loss or a lost sale. Publishing a rate updates every piece in the catalogue at once.

Every piece prices differently

Gross and net weight, purity, making charge per gram or as a percentage, wastage, stone value by carat — the arithmetic is the product, and it has to be right to the paisa.

A customer wants the breakup

Metal, making, stones and GST shown as separate lines, on the product page and again on the invoice, because that is how the conversation goes at the counter.

GST is not one rate

3% on the metal, 5% on making charges itemised separately, CGST and SGST within the state and IGST outside it — worked out from where the order is going.

HOW EDESY HANDLES IT

What you get

Live rate management
Publish the day's rate for 24K, 22K, 18K, silver and platinum from one screen. Rates for other purities are derived from fineness, and a tenfold typo is caught before it reaches the shop floor.
Quotes that expire
A cart holds its price for as long as you choose, then re-quotes. Nobody checks out at a rate from three hours ago.
Hallmarking and certification
HUID, BIS hallmark charge, and the lab and certificate number for stones, carried onto the product page and the invoice.
GST invoices under Rule 46
HSN 7113, place of supply, the correct CGST/SGST or IGST split, amount in words with Indian digit grouping, and an invoice number that never repeats within a financial year.
Insured delivery
Carriage priced by weight or by value, with insurance charged separately and a ceiling on what a service will carry — a ₹1.5 lakh ring is not posted on the same terms as a ₹900 chain.

Questions

Can I set different making charges per piece?

Yes. Each piece carries its own making charge, as a flat amount, a rate per gram, or a percentage of the metal value, plus a wastage percentage if you charge one.

What happens if the gold rate changes while a customer is checking out?

The cart is re-quoted and the customer is shown what changed before they pay. If the price moved after they opened the payment window, checkout stops rather than taking the wrong amount.

Does it handle old gold exchange?

Not yet. It is on the roadmap, and it is the thing jewellers ask for most after rate management.
